Adoption Policies

The Alvarado Animal Services Department always has wonderful animals to choose from, all of whom deserve to have a long and happy life. Our adoption policies are fair and our adoption fee is one of the best values you will find.

Adoption Requirements:

Persons wishing to adopt an animal must be over 18 years of age;

Submit an adoption application

Adoptor must agree to spay or neuter the animal they adopt in accordance with Texas Health & Safety Code Section 828.002

Adoptor must agree to have their new pet vaccinated against rabies in accordance with Texas Health & Safety code 826.021

Persons who rent their home must provide proof that pets are allowed to reside with them in their residence and a pet deposit (if any) has been submitted.

Agree to obey all applicable state, county, city and/or town ordinances relating to proper care of a companion animal/pet.

Submit an adoption fee.

Alvarado Animal Care & Control reserves the right to refuse to adopt an animal if we have reason to believe that doing so would not be in the best interest of the animal.

Application Process
Alvarado Animal Control offers three different ways in which you can adopt an animal from our shelter. We think that adopting an animal from your local shelter should be easy and have made every effort to accomodate anyone who is willing to give an animal a chance to have a long and happy life.

In Person:
If you would like to visit our shelter, please call us to make an appointment with our Animal Control Officer and we will be glad to meet you at our shelter or at our office during normal business hours. You can even download our adoption application and fill it out in advance of your arrival in order for you to speed up the process.

Via Fax: If you live in a part of Texas that might take you several hours to arrive here, please download our adoption application and fax it to our office for review prior to your coming to Alvarado.

Online: We will accept online adoption applications for those who would like to submit one to us for review. All you have to do is create an account on our website, choose the animal you wish to adopt and then click "Apply" on the animals web page.
To create an account, simply go to the menu bar and choose the following;
"MY RESCUE">>"REGISTER"
